PANAJI: A special screening to mark the 50th year of the release of Satyajit Ray''s classic `Pather Panchali'' will be the highlight of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) beginning here on November 29.
The Indian panorama section will consist of 21 feature films and 20 non-feature films chosen by a jury led by noted Kerala film maker Shaji Karun after watching more than 180 films.
Festival director Poonam Kapur said here today adding, there will also be a mainstream section wherein box office hits like `Munnabhai MBBS'' and `Koi Mil Gaya'' will be screened.
The Festival will begin with Anup Kurien''s English film `Mansarovar'' while the non-feature film category will start off with `Saanjh'' directed by Jasmine Kaur.
The mainstream category will begin with last year''s superhit `Munnabhai MBBS'' and will be inaugurated by noted director Yash Chopra, she said.
Tributes will also be paid to stalwarts like Nargis, Yash Johar and Vijay Anand. Kapur said adding, Dev Anand would be introducing his brother''s film `Guide''. A special screening of Nargis'' `Mother India'' as well as a series of Yash Johar films will also be part of the event.
Superstar Amitabh Bachchan will chair a special series of film screenings on World AIDS Day on December 1. Other celebrities who will participate in the festival include Atul Kulkarni, Konkan Sen Sharma and Shabana Azmi
