The announcement came out days after Shawn and Camila shared lovey-dovey pictures from ‘Halloween’.Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes announced on Thursday that they have ended their 2-year relationship. While the couple was romantically linked for just two years, they have been songwriting buddies and good friends since 2014. Here's a timeline of their relationship.

Did you know that Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendez's journey in friendship and love first began while they were both opening acts for Austin Mahone’s tour? The singers revealed that they bumped into each other and Camila knew she wanted to hang out with Mendez, but he was reserved and stuck to playing his guitar. Recalling the day, the hunk revealed that Camila was 'the only person' who talked to him.
At a time when they were just getting to know each other, Mendes was seemingly left smitten by Cabello. The hunk surprised everyone while playing a game of 'Lips, Wife, or Leave It' and picked Camila as the “wife” over Chloë Grace Moretz and Jade Thirwall. Revealing why he picked her, he simply said, "Yeah, she rocks!"
Cabello and Mendes dropped their song, 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' which sparked off rumours of a romance brewing between the two. However, they later revealed that they were just friends and even wrote the song while on Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour.
Shawn and Camila may have only been friends and song-writing buddies at the time, but one thing was clear, Mendes considered Cabello as his “favourite person" in the whole world.
Following this little display of affection, the singer reportedly popped up at a Mendes' show and posed with him for a couple of photos backstage.
Shawn and Camila could deny it all they wanted, but there was no doubt in fans' minds that the two were a pair after they dropped their hit single 'Señorita'. The steamy music video lead to speculations of a romance between the two, but the couple chose to keep mum about the same.
Camila professed her love to boyfriend Shawn on his birthday in a PDA packed post and a note that read, "Happy birthday to this magic human, I love you!!!!"
Later that month, Cabello also opened up about 'falling in love' with Mendes. In her interview, she said that after falling in love she opened up on infinite levels and that every song she wrote was written in the present moment.
As if the mushy posts didn't speak from themselves, Shawn finally confirmed that he’s in a relationship in an interview with a magazine. Later the same month, he said at a fan event, “If I told you the whole story of Camila, it would take a long time. I would say that you have to fight for someone you really love. And if you really, truly love them, then you’ll get them. It just takes time.”
Shortly after the profession of love, Camila also confessed, “I really, really love him a lot.”
In his documentary 'Wonder', Mendes revealed that all his love songs are about his girlfriend Camila. “My song comes on the radio or something, and I'm like, 'Everything's about you. They're all, they have always been about you.'"
The hunk went on to explain that every song he's ever written, has been about his lady love.
Shawn and Camila celebrated two years of dating in July 2021. The couple wished each other with adorable social media posts that gave fans a peek into their fun-filled romance. “Happy 2 years my baby,” Shawn captioned a photo of him kissing his lovely lady while Camila shared some goofy photos from their vacation diaries.
