The ‘Dhoomer’ of Euphoria,
Palash Sen, has only been fixing bones and rocking people with his music post his debut Filhaal (2002). But the Delhi doc is all set for his second movie, which is a short film named And It Rained, in which he plays the lead as well as sings (the music is by Euphoria).
Mumbai Cutting
... A City Unfolds is an amalgamation of ten different stories, and Sen’s movie, And It Rained, is one of them.
Directed by
Manish Jha, the film is based on “the day Mumbai got submerged in the rain. A story of two dejected individuals who want to end their lives,” says Palash. An interesting part of this eleven-and-a-half minute-movie is that it has no dialogues. “The story is conveyed through our song, which is of eight-and-a-half minutes. The song begins with Jiya Jaye Na and ends with Jiya Jaye, for the two characters want to live towards the end of the movie. But unfortunately, that is the time they are likely to die, for the whole city is submerged in water,” he elaborates.
Is this a comeback of sorts? Not really, says Palash. For he’d never really declared that he was quitting the film industry. All this time, he was being offered films, but he did not agree to do any. “They were all everyday ‘Mumbai’ films. I never found a script as sensitive and interesting as my debut one. And I chose to stay away from the run-of-the-mill movies,” says the lead vocalist of Euphoria. Samreen Zaidi (the actress in the movie Sheen) plays the female lead.
And It Rained was screened at film festivals, including the Osian Film Festival. What was the reaction like? “Mere saamney toh koi nahin kahega ki it was a bad movie. Let it release, and let’s hope people like the movie and it’s music too,” says Palash. But after this one, he will be back to his world of music and medicine. “I am not looking forward to being an actor or a musician forever. My motive is to make good music, but eventually, I will be only a doctor. As I see it, the only two truths of life are – disease and death,” he opines. But wasn’t showbiz supposed to be tempting? “How long can I sing and jump on the stage? Not forever na. Showbiz does not last forever,” insists the singer.
