Bollywood might have gone the ‘Multiplex Films’ way – with audiences segmented as niche, classy, upscale, but after a long hiatus, masala films are turning attention towards the small single screen theaters all over again. Almost on the verge of extinction, these theaters have now been given a blessing of sorts by action-packed entertainers like Dabangg, Bodyguard and Singham and have sprung back to life with the collections of such films.

With filmmakers catering to the tastes of the masses, trade analysts have also started believing in the return of the Single Screen phenomenon. It’s all about the masala and melodrama. It’s all about the heroes and heroism. The Chulbul Pandeys and Bajirao Singhams are here to rule. And it’s all about the typical dialogues and as they say, ‘tashan’.
