Subhash Ghai unveils Naveen Kumar’s debut book, says it inspires artists to follow their calling
Renowned flutist Naveen Kumar unveiled his debut book The Journey of Bansuri, with filmmaker Subhash Ghai launching it in the presence of singer Sukhwinder Singh and percussionist Sivamani. The evening blended music and storytelling, with Kumar delivering a live bansuri performance featuring tracks like “Tu Hi Re,” a melody from Hero, and a piece from Dhurandhar 2. A jugalbandi with Sivamani and a high-energy rendition of “Kishna” by Sukhwinder Singh added to the atmosphere.
Reflecting on his journey, Naveen Kumar said, “This book is not just written - it is lived and experienced. It comes from years of self-learning, experimentation, and a deep connection with the bansuri.” Subhash Ghai praised the musician, saying, “True artistry comes from passion and perseverance, and Naveen Kumar’s journey is a beautiful example of that. ‘The Journey of Bansuri’ is not just a book, but an inspiration for every artist who believes in following their inner calling.”
Kumar also acknowledged his roots and support system, sharing, “I feel blessed to have inherited their artistic spirit,” as he spoke about his late parents. He thanked his wife Kiran and children, Rahael Naveena and Jean Naveen, for their constant support. In an emotional tribute, Kumar called Subhash Ghai his “manasik guru,” adding, “His unconditional love for genuine artists is truly inspiring. Despite having no prior connection, he has always supported and encouraged me with great generosity.”
