chennai: the telugu film nuvvu nenu hit the jackpot for the 49th annual filmfare awards for south indian regional films, winning four awards. according to the results released for 2001 by filmfare, nuvvu nenu (producer p. kiran) won not only the best film, but also the best director (teja), best actor (uday kiran) and best music director (r.p. patnaik).
the best actress award has been announced for bhomika for her performance in kushi. the awards would be presented to the winners at a grand function at the jawaharlal nehru stadium in chennai on april 20, at 6.30 pm. in the tamil category, aanandam won the best film award with its producer rb chowdry winning his third filmfare award. the best director award has gone to cheran for his work in the film pandavar bhoomi, which again is his third filmfare award. vikram has bagged his second filmfare award as the best actor for his performance in the film, kasi. earlier, he had won the best jury award from filmfare. laila got her maiden award as best actress for nandaa, while malayalam actress samyuthavarma won her second consecutive filmfare award as best actress for her performance in the film, meghamalhar.
