The moment he steps out of the airport in Ahmedabad, he is welcomed by fans shouting ‘Mere do do baap’ (his lines from his earlier flick, Gopi Kishan). Dressed in designer casuals, Suniel Shetty is at his affable best in a free-wheeling chat.Ahmedabad Rocks I have lovely memories of the time spent here with my friends and in-laws. My wife Mana is from Ahmedabad and that makes me feel closer to the city.
The state is progressing and has a brighter and better future. The infrastructure in Ahmedabad is excellent. Gujarat is certainly the face of India, and I hope one day the rest of India will be like Gujarat.
Present Perfect As an actor, I played the role of a director in
Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai. I kept crying in the film and that is what made people laugh. I have recently signed on the dotted line for almost eight films.
Break Ke Baad I am going to be seen in films after a long time as I lost two to three years in production. After becoming a producer, people assumed I will work as an actor and star in films made only by company. I have decided that now I will only concentrate on acting.
Showtime Honestly, I am at a stage where I want to do good work. I have been in the film industry for 22 years and if I look back there are films like
Gopi Kishan, Hera Pheri, Border, Dhadkan — based on different genres. I always ask myself that can I make people laugh, as it is difficult to make people laugh. I enjoy doing action films as it comes naturally to me. Our industry is called the show business, but I feel this show is only about business. Today, marketing is pervasive and aggressive. Today, actor believe out of sight is out of mind and that’s why they share everything about their lives.
Small is big now Television is big and I would love to do some reality show again. I wish I could continue doing the second season of
Biggest Loser Jeetega. I feel participating in a reality show is better than getting launched in a film.
Fit and fine I am an extremely happy person. When I sleep, I forget everything. As the day ends, my carbs convert to proteins. I eat my dinner by 8 pm and maintain a gap of three hours before sleeping. I train for five to six days in a week — three days weights and three days core exercise for an hour. I am a complete cricket buff. I don’t take any supplements to maintain my physique. As you grow older, you need to get lean and that’s what makes you look young.
Family members I am a hardworking actor, but a spoilt and lazy son/father/husband. I want everything in my hand when I reach home — my mom cooks lunch for me and Mana cooks dinner for me. We are very much like any middle class family. My parents have never visited me on the sets of my films. My daughter and son are keen on doing films, but I am scared about that very thought. I know they can handle success and will stay grounded, but I don’t know whether they will be able to deal with failure.
