Now, Ram Gopal Varma has gone one stop further. Not only has he lined up a sequel, he has titled it Darna Zaroori Hai (DZH)! Some things won’t change, though. In a format similar to DMH, the sequel reportedly has six stranded people with six bizarre tales to tell.

“DMH has taken a good opening, but my decision to make a sequel is not governed by this fact,’’ says Ramu. While Bollywood reel history has few sequels to boast of, the few which have been made haven’t done particularly well at the box-office. ‘‘But I have never really cared about what works and what doesn’t,’’ maintains Ramu, ‘‘In any case, if DZH works, it will break the jinx associated with sequels.’’

While the film-maker refuses to divulge details of either the cast or the storyline of DZH, industry figures reveal that the collections of DMH are expected to drop shortly. ‘‘Still, everyone involved will recover costs, since DMH was made on a shoe-string budget and sold at a reasonable price,’’ reasons trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Whether or not DMH hits the bull’s-eye at the box-office, Ramu is well and truly bitten by the horror bug. But if that bugs you, over to Ramu himself — Darna Zaroori Hai!
