Trolls’ obsession with Malaika Arora must stop

See some of the latest instances of Arora being trolled and why we say her detractors should end their obsession with her.
Reasons why mindlessly shaming Malaika Arora must stop!
NEW DELHI. Bollywood diva Malaika Arora is often at the receiving end of savage troll attacks on social media platforms. Trolls wake up from their slumber every time she post something on her Instagram, and target her in the nastiest possible manner.
Her age, her body, her youthful exuberance, trolls spare nothing.
See some of the latest instances of Arora being trolled and why we say her detractors should end their obsession with her.

Troll Attack 1: Shamed over stretch marks in her picture
The 45-year-old style icon currently vacationing in Maldives posted a picture on Instagram in which her stretch marks were visible.

Trolls said it was ‘disgusting’ to ‘flaunt’ those.

We would like to remind these uneducated trolls that Malaika is a mother of a 16-year-old boy and it is only natural for a woman who gave birth to a child to have stretch marks. If women choose to hide them, it’s their choice. If they decide to flaunt it, guess what? That’s their choice again! Who are these trolls to question another individual’s choices?

What is disgusting indeed is shaming a woman for stretch marks. Would these trolls attack their own mothers for having stretch marks?
In an industry dictated by grossly unrealistic beauty standards, this picture comes as a refreshing change. However, instead of appreciating it, trolls find ways to spread negativity.
Had Malaika edited the picture or undergone cosmetic surgery to remove those marks, then same trolls would have called her ‘fake’ or ‘plastic’. Hypocrisy much?
Troll Attack 2: Slut-shamed for donning bikini
A photo posted by Malaika wearing a bikini attracted several vile and sexist remarks ranging from “You are shameless” to “Your son must be happy seeing this” to “Now Boney would definitely not want Arjun to marry her”. And these are just a few examples. Those who didn’t attack her resorted to objectification.

It is a shame that in our country, a woman is still judged by what she wears. Her character is questioned by those who haven’t done anything worthwhile in life to have a character of their own.
What is more disturbing is that even her family members are not spared, and are often dragged into the hateful web of these trolls.
At the risk of repeating this for the umpteenth time, a woman can wear whatever she likes or is comfortable in. No one besides her holds any right to question her choice of wear and pass remarks on the basis of that.
It also does not give anyone the right to objectify her and call her “easy”.
Troll Attack 3: Called out for “copying” Jacqueline’s moves
troll

A video posted by Malaika to wish her followers on Holi was not received well as trolls alleged that she copied actor Jacqueline Fernandez’s moves from a Tik Tok video the ‘Kick’ star posted.

Although there is some similarity between the concept of the videos, we do not know for sure if Malika indeed “copied” Jacqueline’s video or just took inspiration from it. Hell, even if it is, if Jacqueline has no issues with it, who are trolls to attack Malaika?
Both the videos seem to be part of a brand promotional exercise, so it is possible that the agency handling both the brands is the same and hence the similarity in the concept behind the video. It is also very much possible that agencies are different and different individuals got similar ideas.
Either way, in the creative field, it is not tough to find closeness between two end products.
Troll Attack 4: Attacked for “not acting her age” in the same video
“How embarrassing to see an old woman to pull off juvenile stunts (sic)”, “The old lady has gone crazy”, “Buddhiya ko chain nahi (Old woman has no chill)” were just some of the many ageist comments trolls left on Malaika’s Instagram account.

Malaika is an inspiration for every woman as she continues to break stereotypes with her devil-may-care attitude. She time and again proves that age is just a number for her.
How many 45-year-olds manage to look as fit and desirable as her? She works hard for that.
Life of a woman doesn’t end after crossing a certain age. Being young is a state of mind and one does not cease to be young just because they chose to have kids.
Instead of being nasty, trolls should seek inspiration from her never-dying youthful exuberance. If they can’t, they should just stop obsessing over her.
