Two Amitabh Bachchan hits to be remade
Although remakes as a concept have generally resulted in box office duds (Chashme Baddoor, Himmatwala), leave aside a few exceptions, (Don and Agneepath), it hasn’t deterred producers from acquiring newer titles for more such. This, despite the fact that acquiring a successful film’s rights for remaking means the producer has to shell out a bomb.
The under-production Zanjeerremake, starring Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan, also shifted many hands, and landed in a major controversy when writers Salim-Javed, who held the original copyrights, asked for a generous amount.

But all of this hasn’t stopped producer Jayantilal Gada, CMD of Pen India Pvt Ltd., who last afternoon acquired the remake rights of two of Amitabh Bachchan's films – Andha Kanoon, which had Bachchan teaming up with superstar Rajinikanth and Aakhree Raasta, which had Sridevi and Jaya Prada, opposite Bachchan, who featured in a double role.
Gada, who last produced Kahaani is presently busy with his latest venture, the PrateikBabbar-starrerIsaaqand a 3D version of Sholay. When contacted, he confirmed the purchase saying, “I am very kicked about the deal. Bachchan films were huge and shall remain so. I am not sure which, but I will start one of them early next year.”
