Vicky Kaushal recalls a fan-boy moment at Cannes

Masaan's hero, Vicky Kaushal, recalls a fan-boy moment on the French Riviera.
Vicky Kaushal, son of one of Bollywood's finest action directors, Sham Kaushal, is on a high after his debut film, Masaan, bagged the FIPRESCI and Promising Future Awards at Cannes. Not wanting to rest on his laurels, he is gearing up for his next film's release. Zubaan is a coming-of-age musical drama.The film follows his character Dilsher's journey of self discovery, as he moves from Punjab to Gurgaon and falls in love with a free-spirited Delhi girl, played by Sarah-Jane Dias. “Dilsher is con fused about who he is and what he wants and chases after all the wrong things," he reveals.

Debutant director Mozez Singh has brought on board over a dozen musicians to compose the songs that range from keertans to pop and lounge music. “Every time there is a conversation with one's soul, a song, in a new genre, comes up," says Vicky. Interestingly, he shared the story of Zubaan with British actor and author, Michael Caine, best known for his Alfred Pennyworth act in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight series. When Caine heard of the film, he exclaimed, “I'd love to see Zubaan on Broadway!“ He also introduced Vicky to his `Indian' wife, Shakira Baksh.“They've been married for 43 years and behave like newlyweds. They never miss an opportunity to watch a Hindi film and are the most humble people I have ever met," he says, admitting that his legs wobbled in the presence of the Caines. And when Vicky spotted Little Miss Sunshine's chocolate boy, Paul Dano, he sprinted away for another fan-boy moment.
