Mumtaz and Rajesh Khanna made one of the most hit pairs of the 70s and 80s. They have done a number of memorable movies together. Not to mention, their songs which remain evergreen till date - be it 'Jai Jai Shiv Shankar' or 'Aap Ki Kasam'. While Mumtaz and Khanna were hit pair, they were also good friends off-screen. Mumtaz is often seen talking about the superstar.
Here's recalling the time when Mumtaz actually saved his life when even Khanna's clothes were torn by his fans. As per reports, in 1971 they were shooting for a film titled, “Dushman”. As the shooting was in a village there were less crew members and no special security arrangements. The news that Rajesh Khanna is the hero of the film spread like fire not only in the village but also the nearby village. As a result hundreds of people stormed in to get a glimpse of the superstar.
Just when Rajesh Khanna was ready to give his shot he saw hundreds of people breaking the barricade and storming towards him. At that time he did not knew what was going to happen with him. People started pulling his clothes some trying to touch him and a chaos was created. Sensing the situation Mumtaz took a big step. She was bold and realized that she can do something. Therefore she entered the crowd and pulled out Rajesh Khanna. He was unhurt but his hair was scattered and his shirt was torn.
Earlier, Mumtaz had revealed in an interview that Khanna was so possessive about her that he actually wouldn't like if she worked with other heroes.
