The 1949 film ‘Barsaat’ was one of the most loved movies of
Raj Kapoor and Nargis. After ‘Barsaat’,

Shammi Kapoor. Back then he was in school while Nargis was working on the movie ‘Barsaat’.
Shammi saw Nargis in a pensive mood as she wanted to do ‘Awara’ with Raj Kapoor but her family wasn’t in support. At that time Shammi assured her that her family will eventually agree and will not let an opportunity like this go away. Then Nargis said that if her family agrees, she will give a kiss to Shammi.
Now ‘Barsaat’ went on to become one of the big hits of the time, and then both Raj and Nargis started working on ‘Awara’. By that time Shammi had completed his schooling and left college. Then one fine day he met Nargis, and upon seeing him she said now he is a grown man, and though she remembers the promise of the kiss, he will have to ask for something else. “Ghramophone”, said Shammi to Nargis.
Thereafter, the two went to a store where Nargis bought Shammi Kapoor a gramophone and a few records of his choice.
