When Raveena Tandon revealed the reason behind not marrying Akshay Kumar after their secret engagement

However, the duo shares a heartbreaking story from their past. They were reportedly engaged to each other in a secret ceremony but later went their separate ways.
In the early '90s, Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon's on-screen chemistry quickly became the talk of the town. Their pairing in the 1994 blockbuster Mohra sparked rumours of a real-life romance. Raveena, deeply invested in the relationship, even stepped away from signing new films, reportedly due to Akshay’s wish for her to stay home and prioritise family.

Both Raveena and Akshay have acknowledged that they were, in fact, engaged. Raveena once opened up about their elaborate engagement ceremony, sharing how Akshay’s family had flown down from Delhi to join her own family for the occasion. The ceremony was traditional, complete with a pandit performing rituals and elders draping a red dupatta over her head.

During an old chat with Simi Garewal on her show, Raveena revealed that the engagement was a voluntary action. “I was engaged to somebody I knew. This is what I wanted — to lead a very normal life. I quit in advance before marriage because we thought that when the last day of my shoot arrived, we would go ahead and get married. Once I restarted my career, he again said to leave it, and we would go ahead with the wedding. But then I told him that once I chose you over my career, but now I will choose my career over you,” she added.
Raveena clarified that it was merely an elaborate engagement ceremony. She revealed that both their families attended, with a pandit performing rituals. A red dupatta was placed on her head by one of Akshay's elders, which led many to mistakenly believe it was a wedding.
Despite the deep bond they once shared, by 1998, Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar decided to go their separate ways.
