When Shefali Jariwala first heard the track 'Kaanta Laga', she was just an engineering student with a quiet dream to see herself on TV. Coming from a family of academicians, her world revolved around books and lectures, not dance shoots and music videos. But when an opportunity to feature in the song came knocking, she decided to take the leap. “I was in college then, and my parents told me to focus on my studies,” she shared, remembering how hard it was to convince her family.
The reason she accepted the part was simple yet bold - she wanted to earn her own money and live the thrill of seeing herself on screen.
Rs 7,000 paycheque
Shefali revealed to that she was paid Rs 7,000 for Kaanta Laga, a sum that felt big enough for a college student seeking her first taste of independence. But there was a challenge, her father was strictly against it.
The actress first confided in her mother, and together, they convinced her father, who eventually let her pursue the project despite his reservations. Little did they know, that decision would turn Shefali into a household name, and whose dance moves and energy would become a part of every 90s kid’s memory.
