‘Saand Ki Aankh’: What Bhumi Pednekar had to say about Neena Gupta, Soni Razdan supporting the ageism debate

Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu’s latest film ‘Saand Ki Aankh’, kicked up a debate on ageism and sexism in Bollywood. This was brought to light by Kangana Ranaut’s sister, Rangoli Chandel, who pointed out that the actress turned down the role and suggested that the makers approach senior actresses like Neena Gupta to play the part of the 60-year-old sharpshooters.

The tweet soon sparked off a debate on whether it was right for filmmakers to cast younger women to play older characters in films. The discussion heated up when Neena shared her views, saying, “Yes I was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamse kam humse kara lo bhai.”

Alia Bhatt’s actress mother, Neena Gupta also chimed in agreement and pointed out a similar issue.

When Bhumi was asked about the flack she was receiving for her casting in the film, the actress said that it was the filmmaker’s prerogative. She said went on to add that she respects Neena Gupta and Soni Razdan, and only hopes that the movie changes their opinion. Bhumi further said that playing Chandro Tomar was the opportunity of a lifetime.

Here's what Parineeti Chopra had to say about Priyanka Chopra being trolled for smoking

International sensation, Priyanka Chopra was in the news all this week after she rang in her 37th birthday like a true superstar. Then why are you after the film industry? It provides livelihood at least. No one rapes and leaves you. It depends on the girl, what she wants to do. Raj Thackeray questions why Sridevi was given a state funeral

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday, questioned why late Bollywood actress Sridevi was given a state funeral, asking “What did she do for the country that her body was wrapped in the tricolour?"

The political party chief was addressing party workers at a rally in Mumbai when he hit out at the Maharashtra government and also alleged that the media attention given to Sridevi’s demise was a means to divert attention from the multi-million PNB-Nirav Modi scam. Claiming that the media was under pressure from the BJP government, Thackeray pointed out that Nirav Modi was the talk of the town until Sridevi’s demise and funeral coverage took over.

“Nirav Modi was the talk of the town, then the issue of Sridevi came in. This was brought to change the issue. When a person like Sridevi dies, you wrap her in tri-colour and you say you did that because she was a Padma Shri. It was all fault of the Maharashtra government,” Raj Thackeray was quoted saying at the rally.

Also taking a dig at Akshay Kumar and his films ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘PadMan’, he said that the actor is “not even an Indian citizen” and was trying to follow in the footsteps of Manoj Kumar, an actor popularly known as "Bharat Kumar". Taking a pot-shot at Akki’s socially-driven films he said, the films were just propaganda for government schemes.

Minister Jayant Patil opens up about his alleged altercation with Shah Rukh Khan

Quite recently, a video surfaced online of politician Jayant Patil allegedly shouting at Shah Rukh Khan, when the actor was heading to Alibaug for his birthday bash. The minister has since opened up about the viral video and revealed what really transpired between the two.

Speaking about the incident, Patil recounted, “Shah Rukh Khan was seen on a boat. He gestured at the crowd from the boat, blew kisses, said hi, hello etc. His gesturing continued for around 15 to 20 minutes from the boat. Many people, including tourists to Gharapuri, were waiting to board the boats. We all were inconvenienced, as his boat was docked at the staircase.”

The political figure also maintains that nothing truly happened between him and King Khan, although the video sees him saying, “Shah Rukh may be a superstar, but he does not own Alibaug.”

However, he did express his disapproval on SRK’s behaviour as he concluded by saying, “The actor should have come out of the boat on to an open space in Gateway of India to greet or be with his fans, rather than inconvenience citizens travelling to Alibaug.”
Shah Rukh has not yet commented on the matter.

After ex-girlfriend, Niharika Singh lashed out at the actor for allegedly making false claims, his 'first love' Sunita Rajwar has reportedly sent him a legal notice and asked for compensation of Rs 2 crore for allegedly attempting to damage her image.

According to reports, she stated that she does not want to take any legal action because "the damage is already done and it’s irreversible."

All is well between 'Padmavati' stars Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone

Soon after the 3D trailer launch of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus 'Padmavati' that took place recently, rumours flew around that Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor were upset over the attendance of Deepika Padukone at the launch and they claim they have no clue about it. In the latest development, the actors said there is no truth to the rumours and these speculations are baseless. A source close to the development revealed that it was Bhansali who asked DP to attend the event. The source said,"She was finishing some patchwork but he asked her to attend the event and complete her shoot after that. The moment she got done she left for the Padmavati shoot."

Further, putting light on the matter the source said that no one questions SLB as they know and believe in his vision. Also, the three of them will probably be promoted on different dates. He said,"A promotional schedule has been chalked out and Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh’s teams have been informed who will attend what and where." The source added that those who work with the filmmaker knows that he controls the publicity and the actors have no hand in it at all. So no one was upset with this.

Rounding off, the source stated that it's just not the director but he also has a renowned production house and everyone listens to what they are told to do out of respect and love. He concluded, "Bhansali decides who attends Padmavati events. It was he who decided that Deepika Padukone too should attend the 3D trailer launch event on the day she was shooting for Padmavati. The actress merely followed what she was asked to do by her director. All three actors are very professional and will always obey their director’s requests whom they love and respect.”

Also, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is finishing the shoot of the film and the edit so he couldn't make it to Deepika's party on Saturday night and Shahid and Mira were out of town. Ranveer was present by Deepika's side, so all is well and not as reported.

Saand Ki Aankh is an incredible film. Here is an incredibly bold Hindi language movie that unflinchly challenges very old patriarchal core values in India and reveals a wrongful masculinity core value burry bahut gull-ty mistake that brought down a major Hollywood film producer and all some people can complain about is that the two actors cast as the leads are age inappropriate! Everyone wonders or just blindly accepts how men, a long time ago, came to inappropriately over dominate women in every aspect of society including film and now this movie answers the core essence of that question! And there is all this small minded quibbling. I sat with 2 other people in an empty New York multiplex theater watching this film and admired everyone in India who made it possible for me to watch it. This film or a similar one would NEVER get made in Hollywood! Women executives in top American companies would love this film because it so forcefully articulates some of how they must feel. If they could get past the Hindi language. In terms of the Me-Too movement, India is very much dealing with everything Hollywood is dealing with and it stems from ancient Western and Eastern disenfranchising patriarchal beliefs. This film should be seen by everyone because it deals with India''s and the rest of the world''s future as regards women. Isn''t that much more important than Houseful 4 or Made in China?
