Bollywood's close connection with festivals has always made headlines. While actors and producers clash and fight to get their films released on festivals like Diwali, Holi etc., Eid has undoubtedly emerged as a huge business time for Bollywood movies. While the 'Khans' of Bollywood and their love for this date has always worked in their favour, let's take a look at the films that released on Eid in the last couple of years and their box office collection.

Bollywood's Eid connection

Chennai Express: Year 2013 marked the entry of another Khan on Eid. Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express broke all records and emerged as one of the highest grossers of all times. The film also marked the entry of the '200 crore club' in Bollywood. As per a report in koimoi.com, Chennai Express made Rs 212 crores at the domestic Box Office by the end of its third week run. The film also won many awards for being the most entertaining film of the year.

Ek Tha Tiger: Salman's Ek Tha Tiger released on 15th August in 2012. Salman and Katrina's sizzling chemistry and his super raw action skills made the film an instant hit. As per a report in koimoi.com, the film garnered a huge collection of Rs 191.30 million by the end of the third week. Salman again broke the record made by his own movie, Bodyguard in 2011.

Bodyguard: Salman who considers Eid his lucky day, came back again with a major box office success. Salman was paired opposite Kareena in the action thriller Bodyguard. The film released on the Eid of 2011, broke all box office records. As per a report in koimoi.com, the film made a collection of Rs 145 million in its three week run. The film broke the record set by Salman's previous movie Dabangg.

Dabangg: Salman Khan continued his association with Eid and released his movie 'Dabangg' on 10 September 2010. The movie again went on to be a huge hit. The film also marked Sonakshi Sinha's debut in the industry. Dialogues like 'thappad se darr nahi lagta saab' and 'hum tum mein itne chhed kar denge'... could be heard everywhere and anywhere. The film went onto win major awards at a number of award shows.

Wanted: Year 2009 saw Salman Khan make a grand entry at the box office. Salman Khan was paired with Ayesha Takia in Wanted. The film released on 18 September 2009 and swept away all box office numbers. The film emerged as the second highest grosser of the year. As per a report in Koimoi.com, while multiplexes earned around Rs.7-8 crore, single screen theatres made a whooping Rs. 24-25 crore in its opening weekend. Salman Khan's action avatar became an instant hit among fans.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa: This psychological thriller swept away all box office records with its dhamaakedaar entry. Vidya Balan's spectacular act along with Akshay's humourous side made the film a big box office success. Released on 12th October 2007, the film had Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Ameesha Patel and Shiney Ahuja in lead roles. The film also established Akshay Kumar as one of the most bankable stars of the industry. The film made a total collection of Rs 497 million in India.
