Hamari Adhuri Kahani has got a poor response at the box office and the writer of the film, Mahesh Bhatt, has blamed film critics for its failure. In an interview with NDTV, Bhatt said that the people from Bharat have loved the film while people from India haven’t. He further said that he did not have any problem with the people who did not like the film and that he just wanted them to understand that in one India, there are many ‘Indias’. The Arth director added that the filmmakers must be given the freedom to make films for as many ‘Indias’ that they think existed.

Vidya Balan gets into the skin of the characters that she essays in films. Vidya, who plays a florist in the love saga, Humari Adhuri Kahani, trained with one for two months. According to reports, the actress apparently requested that while the pre-production of the film was going on, she trains with a florist to look authentic on screen, when she arranges flowers and decorates hotels. "She wanted to give 200 per cent for the film and as a director I was simply thrilled to have a talented actor like her investing so much for my film. We hired a florist who trained her for the part. We were all amazed at her dedication to even get into such intricate things," said Mohit in a PTI report.

Emraan Hashmi, who has not been successful in impressing the audience with his past few films, considers Hamari Adhuri Kahani as his rebirth in the industry. According to a PTI report, Emraan says that deciding to star in HAK is not an attempt to shed his on-screen image of a con-man, or a serial kisser, but rather an effort to broaden his range as an actor. "It is not so much about getting away from what I have been doing. It has more to do with my concern and priority as an actor. I want to see myself doing something else. When you reach that point in your life, you want cinema to reflect that. It might be a lot of things in your life- getting married, having a kid- all these things bring about changes. This was the best way to do it. This is what I was looking for - a rebirth. What I have been doing has been great I am thankful to the 12 years. But something else needed to be done because I have crossed that stage where I want to do something new," he said.

In the film, Rajkummar Rao will be seen playing a character that is older to him. The actor will be seen sporting the salt-and-pepper look in his next. National Award winner for his film Shahid, Rajkummar Rao had no inhibitions to play a man who is 15-20 years older to him. As an actor, he feels that there are various characters you get to play. Since the script of the film demanded him to play and older character, he had no qualms and just went for it. Earlier, we have seen Varun Dhawan play an older man in his film Badlapur. In a report, Rajkummar Rao shares, "To play one's own age is easier. However to play a character some years older, I needed to observe and adapt the body language of a person that age. I had to bring in subtle nuances to my character."

According to a PTI report, actor-director Pooja Bhatt has revealed that she has a footage of her father, Mahesh Bhatt singing the title track of Hamari Adhuri Kahani. "You liked the various covers of the title song from #HamariAdhuriKahani wait till you see footage I have of @MaheshNBhatt singing the same!" [sic] tweeted Pooja. Composed by Mithoon, Jeet Ganguly and Ami Mishra, the music of Hamari Adhuri Kahani, starring Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi and Rajkumar Rao in lead roles, is already topping the charts.

There were various reports about Mahesh Bhatt planning to show the film to the audience before its release. According to reports, they have decided to show the film to select audience from across the country.
