1978 A Teen Night Out

STORY: Set in the late 70s – just days before graduating high school, a bunch of kids – Sunny (Gaurav Sharma), Pooja (Muskaan Tomar), Malini (Vaishnavi Kadam) , Bhushan (Rishabh Raj), Dhruv (Yash Rajpara) and Tina (Apurva Godbole) – go off to an abandoned film studio, which is also rumoured to be haunted, and experience supernatural activities.

REVIEW: Upon realising that high school as well as teenage years’ almost over, a group of friends from Mumbai go on an overnight trip to the outskirts of the city, and stay the night in an abandoned film studio where a popular actress had committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in 1974.

Now ‘1978: A Teen night Out’ is set in the 70s but exudes a vibe that is of the 90s. The horror flick, which is bizarre to the core and brings nothing new to the table, is dripped in mediocrity both in terms of the script and cinematography, and the overall performances by a bunch of highly enthusiastic (but average) actors. 15 minutes into the movie and the VFX is so overdone that it practically starts to hurt the naked eye.

If you expect this movie to break the jinx that’s entrapped Bollywood’s depiction of the horror genre, ‘1978: A Teen night Out’ is no relief. For example, the abandoned film studio is called ‘Kamsey Brothers’ and the surprise element in the film is no surprise at all.

The background score is funny and the scenes that are intended to make one tremble with fear will leave you in splits. This trip is best avoided.
