Railway Raju

STORY: Two gangs – Bhaiyaji and Qureshi – fight each other over complete control on Varanasi and after a lot of bloodshed, one does gain jurisdiction of the holy city but it is not the way both the parties would have wanted things to end.

REVIEW: Portrayed as an out-and-out gangster with a long rap sheet, titular character Railway Raju (Sunny Shaw) is quite evidently a chic magnet but the love of his life Maya is in dilemma whether to take the plunge because of his involvement with Bhaiyaji gang. If you thought the names of both the underworld mafia groups sound funny and take away from the seriousness of the plot, wait till you watch the movie.

To begin with, ‘Railway Raju’ is inexplicably long, senseless, and hilarious (which, of course, is not a compliment). With due respect, all the actors should have at least tried to put on a slightly bearable show. And the director-cinematographer Dinkar Rao should have tried to make it watchable at least under the influence of some magical substance(s).

The protagonist and his two love interests – the philandering bhabiji Maya and the wannabe dancer Rosey – look like they have been forced to be romantically involved at gunpoint. The parallel characters have no idea what they are doing and neither does the scriptwriter.

There are few things in life that are not supposed to add up under any circumstances and ‘Railway Raju’ is one of them (in the world of cinema). Take a U turn…scoot!
