Chandrabindoo and Babul Supriyo enthralled the audience at a Poila Baisakh concert presented by The Times of India. Revellers turned up in ethnic Bengali attire to get into the festive mood. Babul, dressed in a black dhuti-panjabi, delighted the audience with his melodious Bengali numbers and wisecracked. “My mom, who was in the audience, forced me to wear the dress.
I wore black to break the superstition of wearing the dreaded colour on New Year. It was nostalgic to perform in front of a Bangali audience who appreciated my songs as well as jokes,” Babul said.
Chandrabindoo rendered “Pherari mon” from “Antaheen” as well as other popular numbers like “Je kota din” and “Pash baalish”. “Requests kept pouring in. But we couldn’t heed all as we had to conclude the programme sharp at 10 pm,” said frontman Anindya.
