The Indian sense of rhythm springs directly from a divine source and is perhaps, best expressed through an ensemble of Indian percussion.
This makes our ‘drums’ sacred. And, as an ode to this divine quality, Pt. Subhankar Banerjee, along with his ensemble, presented “Sacred Drums of India” . The performance began with ‘Power of Maa’ , based on Raga Bhairavi, followed by ‘Pancha Tatva’ , which was a composition based on the concept of the five elements in Nature.

The evening reached its crescendo with ‘When Drums Sing’ , based on folk tunes of India and concluded with an invocation to Lord Shiva — ‘Divine Energy’.
