The Purana Quila in New Delhi became an apt backdrop for celebrating 175 years of The Times of India. The queue to get in went well beyond the ramparts of the monument, spilling onto the road, but the sentiment was one of nostalgia, as people walked to the stage along the path brightened by light-boxes of old TOI pages (which many stopped to read).
Soon music filled the fort, thrumming the slightly nippy night into a mood of joy, as
Sonu Nigam wowed the audience with an amazing performance that went on for well over three hours.
He melded music with history, as he started with oldies and went on to sing his favourite from Agneepath.
The crowd roared when
Saif Ali Khan and
Javed Akhtar saab came on stage. Saif recited a couplet penned by Javed saab. Both decided to sit through the performance, clapping and applauding an emotional Sonu.
