India’s singing legends Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle were for the better part of their professional lives pitted against one another as rivals. Now, in a rare occasion, Lata will honour Asha with the ‘Pt Hridaynath Lifetime Achivement Award’ on March 31 and it’s the first time that Lata will be felicitating her younger sister.
A source revealed, “Hridaynath is the youngest of the Mangeshkar siblings and they all love him.
The award was to be given to Asha tai on his birthday, which was on October 26, last year but she lost her daughter Varsha in the same month. It was thus delayed. Asha tai will not only receive the award but will also sing Marathi songs for three hours. Lata didi will turn 84; she won’t be singing!”
Last year the same award was presented to Lata herself by Amitabh Bachchan. The Mangeshkars wanted to honour Amitabh this year but, given it’s an award in the name of an ace music director, Asha Bhosle was chosen.
