After celebrating her birthday earlier this month with her family in Delhi, singer Akriti Kakar jetted off to the Maldives with her sisters – Prakriti and Sukriti. For the birthday girl, an ideal way to celebrate her special day is to be surrounded by family. She says, “I went to Delhi to spend quality time with my husband, who has been there taking care of his parents as they recover from COVID-19.
The day began with a hawan, followed by a scrumptious lunch and a cosy dinner with my husband.”
After returning from Delhi, the singer spent a day with around 40 cancer patients. “I sang for them, played antakshari with them, made them dance and laugh. Even though the children were dealing with cancer, their energy and zest for life were so inspiring. I had the most humbling and fulfilling birthday celebration with them,” she adds.
Nowadays, pre-pandemic lavish parties have made way for cosy get-togethers. “I recall hosting extravagant parties for my industry friends and colleagues to the tune of over 100 people. But over the years, it has boiled down to keeping it simple, doing something meaningful and nice for someone in need. The idea is to add true value to my own life in return. For me, an ideal birthday celebration is surrounding myself with my family…people who have always been there for me,” says Akriti.

She adds, “In the past one year, I have transformed both as a person and an artiste. I want to do something for everyone I meet in whatever way I can. The pandemic has taught me to value my family even more and not lose a single day in telling them how treasured they are. Material things never really mattered much to me, and now they’re of further lesser value. I’ve learnt to be more independent and dig deeper to seek peace so that I can deliver my best even as an artiste.”
But the celebrations didn’t just end there! Akriti decided to enjoy some downtime with her sisters – Prakriti and Sukriti – in the Maldives. She says, “I have been so overworked and it felt nice to break away for a bit and reflect on life, health and things that matter. This break turned out to be more needed than I imagined. It was a sisters’ trip where we bonded like never before and a birthday surprise that I will take a while to get over! I took an international flight for an international getaway with zero work agenda after so long. This leisure trip was rejuvenating, pampering and a privilege. Roaming around on a white-sand island without a mask, seeing shades of aqua that I thought only existed on social media and breathing the fresh ocean air has been blissful.”
