My nasal voice has given me recognition says Himesh Reshammiya, who will soon be back with his music after a hiatus of two years, in a candid chat with Lisa AntaoSinger, composer, song writer and actor, Himesh Reshammiya — who took the TV music channels and radio by storm with his songs some years back, has been missing on the music scene for a while.
His acting aspirations materialised with his debut film, Aap Ka Suroor, which was a hit but his next three films, Karzzzz, Radio and Kajraare tanked at the BO, yet he proudly says, “My music is the USP of my films.” But now he’s planning to swing back in action soon saying, “After giving countless hit songs, I felt saturated.
I decided to do music only for my own films and music albums. And so, I decided to start my own music label. I took a break from doing music, to concentrate on acting. Now my next movie, Damadamm, a romantic comedy will feature my music.”
After taking a break of two years, how different is his music going to be? The nasal voice speaks, “The biggest highlight of my upcoming music is its freshness, be it the voice, lyrics or the sound. Since the last two years, I have been creating new songs. I have experimented with various genres of music whether its rock, pop, slow songs, etc. Now I’m ready with 500 new songs and I have collaborated with about 250 artists, domestic as well as very big international big names.” When probed, who are these international biggies, Himesh refuses to divulge any information and only reveals, “I’ll make a formal announcement when the time is right. All I can say is that the videos of the 200 to 300 songs that I have worked on, will be shot globally over the period of next two years.”
Himesh is gearing up for the release of his music album, @ Da Edge which will be releasing in September. He says, “There are 15 songs that are written, composed and sung by me along with other international artists, in this album. Usually, it’s the international singers who collaborate with Indian artists and launch their music albums here. Whereas, in my case, an Indian artist is going to be launched globally in 122 countries. Also, the revenues earned from an international album is 100 times more than the revenues generated by songs in India.” When asked, what’s the USP of this album going to be, pat comes his reply, “International artists like the idea of coming to India and doing something in Bollywood. It is going to be a completely new experience but at the same time, the songs have my trademark style of romantic music.” Speaking of trademark style, has he deviated from his nasal voice? “Not really. My nasal voice has given me recognition,” says he in true Himesh style.
