The golden melodies of yesteryear may not have the technical perfection associated with modern-day songs, but they linger on, like exotic aftertastes.
Compositions of legends like SD Burman, thanks to their lyrical and musical superiority, still find pride of place among the innumerable new tracks that hit the airwaves every day.
Arindam, Arghya, Bubai, Raju, King and Subhasish of the Kolkata based band, Kaya, have embarked on a project that promises to add a modern touch to eight of SD’s early songs, composed during the ’30s — Chilo madhabi rati go, Swapono na bhange jodi, Godhulir chaya pothe, Jagayo na tare, Momo mondire, Dole Radha, Megho jhore jay and Parodeshe keno rohile.
