Powerhouse songstress Sona Mohapatra is currently busy with her album, The Punjab Project with BombayVoice.com, one of India’s first online music portals with the best of music talents from India and overseas. READ: Sona Mohapatra: I was hoping for a women’s section in the Bihar Diwas The album has re-loaded EDM-folk tracks and is produced by Sumit Sethi, with additional lyrics by Paras Sunda. It’s the portal’s first music project, a tribute to the masters of Punjabi folk music, and will be launched on July 9 with a massive event in Delhi and simultaneously on digital platforms.

Nehar Wale Pul is a folk song that was popularised by her.

Says Sona, “I have always wanted to make a cultural impact as an artiste and also be part of the bridge that connects the ancient to the contemporary. The Punjab Project is one such bridge. The genre of music used here is not one I am associated with, but I am very excited to be pushing the envelope in this ‘Folkotronica’ space with Sumit and Paras.”
Listen to Sona Mohapatra's songs on Gaana.com Bombay Voice will be releasing a single from the album every fortnight. The follow-up to this song is another folk tune by Surinder Kaur, also known as the Nightingale of Punjab.
