Yo Yo Honey Singh has arrived!

Whether it’s having both bhai Khan and King Khan waiting for his songs, or seeing the hottest Bollywood ladies turn muses for his debut short film project, Yo Yo Honey Singh feels he’s finally arrived.
“Jo main gaaunga, woh ab sab sunenge hi,” says the musician who, a year after his first DT interview, has finally learnt how to deal with controversies that come his way.While in Delhi to announce his association with the World Kabaddi League, he spoke to Delhi Times about his funny film debut, his ‘kya farak padta hai’ approach to spoofers and his changing outlook towards the Delhi nightlife scene.

Excerpts:Status tag doesn’t matter- I chose kabaddi because usse mera bachpan ka relation hai. Ab jaise log IPL pick karte hain, ya aajkal sab football ke peechhe paden hain, mujhe usmein koi interest nahi hai. I won’t do something just because others are doing it or it’s a status thing to support that game. Main kabaddi bachpan se dekh raha hoon, right upto my England days. When we were young boys in Chandigarh, we had a small kabaddi league of our own and at that time, to raise money for the club, we had brought singer Jazzy B to perform for us. Main ab khelta nahi hun kyunki mujhe bachpan mein bahut patka hua hai logon ne, but as a sport I believe in kabaddi, and I hope that people outside of Punjab take interest in this high-energy sport. India ki game hai, but internationally, it’s huge. I have a team which will be called the Yo Yo Tigers, and ab kabaddi pe bhi gaane banaaunga apni team ke liye. Everybody just talks about my partying and going out etc, but in the last two years, I have reduced all of that a lot. I am a total fitness freak with my kickboxing and more. Main gaata toh hun Chaar Botal Vodka, but ab time hai lassi peeke kabaddi khelne ka, aur main sabko yahi batana chahta hun.
Audiences know me now- Last year tak toh koi bhi kuch bhi bol deta tha aur log maan jaate the. Fake accounts, wrong news and allegations, sab tha. But now, this year, I have gone out in the media and met people. Now the audience knows me, ab unhe pata hai ki Honey kya ladka hai aur kaisa nahi karega. Ab yahi toh time hai mera. It’s just the beginning. Abhi mera plan shuru hua hai. Hollywood mein Sonakshi ke saath 10 minute ki short film banaayi hai using an international crew, action and so much more. Ab Bollywood projects maine bahut kum aur selective kar diye hain. Main Indian independent scene ko international karna chahta hoon, that’s the plan. And ab jaake aisa time aa gaya hai ki log mujhe jaante hain. Jo main karunga, gaaunga, woh sab log sunenge. Mera time toh ab shuru hua hai. no one really has a problem with my lyrics. Ab bhi jo log lyrics wagerah pe rote hain, ya ungli uthate hain, woh sab sirf fun ke liye hi hota hai. Unko bas poonchh dabane ki aadat pad gayi hai, kisi ko koi problem nahi hai lyrics se. Lyrics jo bhi ho, sab yeh questions puchhenge kyunki unko mazaa aata hai mere answers sunne mein. No one really has a problem with the lyrics. Aise log movie pe bhi kheenchte hain, but mujhe fark nahi padta. Mujhe paise mile the woh movie karne ke, but I know mujhe acting nahi aati. Bahut mushkil hota hai aise jhooth bolna, dusra character banna. For me, it was just an experience, I want to learn more, but I don’t care about the past.
With Hollywood offers, who cares about twitter jokes? Itna kaam karoge to logon ki nazar mein to aoge hi. But mujhe kuch nahi fark padta. There are millions of fans jinke liye main kaam karta hoon. There’s a big difference in having haters and never being liked. Itne log saath dete hain, support karte hain, jo nahi karte unko toh main dekhta hi nahi hoon, parwaah hi nahi karni chahiye. Mereko yeh dhyaan aata hai, Salman bhai ka phone aata hai, ‘gaana de raha ki nahi de raha?’ Shah Rukh bhai ka phone aata hai, ‘gaana de raha hai ki nahi de raha Happy New Year ke liye?’ Main itna kuch kar raha hoon. I have 10 short films to shoot with our hottest actresses. Sonakshi ke baad Jacqueline hai, Nargis hai. Main agar LA mein baith ke Sonakshi ke saath video shoot kar raha hoon, toh Twitter pe koi kya bol raha hai mere baar mein, mujhe kya parvah? legends toh legends hain. Abhi naye rappers aa rahe hain, naye naam aa rahe hain scene mein. Achhi hi baat hai, I am happy that there is more representation. Dilip Kumar sahab thay, phir Amitabh Bachchan ji aaye, phir Shah Rukh. Yeh toh chalta rehta hai. But haan, legends toh legends hote hain. Ab new log aayenge, but phir Hrithik Roshan aur Harman Baweja mein bahut fark bhi hota hai.
Delhi has become dull- I love the vibe of the city. Kitna kuch dekha hai maine yahaan, likha iske bare mein. But the city has become dull now. I’ve come back to the city after 6-7 months and the nightlife is very dull now. I went out in the city a few days back and everything was shutting down so early. So I feel it’s become dull here.
