Soon after the court ruling in favour of ADOR, the company stated that they would be taking legal action against all those who upload malicious and harmful content against NewJeans. Earlier last month, the court had ruled in favour of the company and had rejected the injunction filed by NewJeans to terminate their contracts and work independently. Now they have adamantly been issuing public statements and requests to the group, asking them to start their activities under the company soon.
ADOR issues statement, promises legal action against malicious comments
In a recent notice shared by NewJeans’ management agency, they have promised to take legal action against those who have been circulating malicious content about the K-pop idol group. The statement read that, “Since NewJeans’ debut, we have continuously monitored and pursued legal action against malicious online content targeting the artists.”
The statement continued, sharing that the company is actively collecting evidence of these malicious and defamatory comments, and that they will be taking strict action once they do. The statement read that, “We are actively collecting evidence of serious rights violations—including defamation related to nationality or appearance, spreading false information (fake news), invasion of privacy, and malicious slurs or sexually explicit insults—across domestic and international websites and social media platforms.
We are proceeding with legal steps alongside requests for prompt content removal.”
Suspects have been charged
People who have been actively spreading defamatory statements against the company’s artists are facing legal consequences. Many have been charged with terms like criminal defamation and use of obscene communications. These individuals are also under continuous investigation.
They stated that they have been using the help of the U.S. legal system as well to get their hands on the identities of such individuals who have continuously posted malicious and hateful content against the artist, time and time again.
Taking action against deepfakes as well
Not only this, but the company has issued statements about how the company is all set and ready to combat AI and deepfake content as well. Their statement read that “We are actively cooperating with investigative authorities to track and punish those who produce and distribute fake videos targeting the artists.”
Many people have already been caught and punished as well, and are facing penalties, like asset forfeiture, community service, education, probation, and other restrictions as well.
