Avatara Purusha 2

Plot: The onus is on Overacting Anila (Sharan) to save Trishanku Mani - a key to enter Trishanku Loka (a rare world that exists is in between Heaven and Earth) - and Jois’ family from witchcraft practitioner, Daraka (Ashutosh Rana). Who will emerge victorious in this evil vs evil fight?

Review: The last 15 minutes of the first instalment of Avatara Purusha, filled with a goosebumps-inducing revelation, had hinted at a worthy sequel. As expected, the second installment takes off with a brief intro about the first part. Overacting Anila aka Karna’s (Sharan) true colours are revealed with the arrival of Kumara (Srinagara Kitty). The fight between Karna and Kumara for the Trishanku Mani gets intense. Meanwhile, Anila opens up about his past association with black magic and witchcraft to Siri (Ashika Ranganath). He also reveals how he escaped the dark world and reformed himself under a spiritual teacher. When Daraka comes looking for Trishanku Mani, Anila, who knows both the worlds, decides to help out the Jois’ family. Can he register a win in this evil vs evil fight with the help of spirituality? Or does he come with a selfish goal, too?

Just like the mythical Trishanku Loka, director Suni’s Avatara Purusha 2 is neither here, nor there. The movie is too random and lacks flow as it jumps from one scene to another. There are too many recurring flashbacks. Characters’ sudden deaths/disappearances feel too random for the plot, especially Kitty’s. Comedy doesn’t work either, nor does the VFX. The final showdown between Karna and Daraka is abysmal.

Sharan’s comic timing works well, but only partly. As the movie enters the supernatural realm, it lacks the seriousness that is needed to evoke curiosity and fear. Kitty’s extended cameo role ends in disappointment. A few scenes between Saikumar and Sharan are written and enacted well. The movie has everything, but it is scattered randomly, thus leaving the audience confused between wanting to enjoy the comedy or watching the film with a serious intent, for it aims to tell an interesting netherworld story. It doesn’t do justice to both. Though the story ends with this film, the climax hints at a third part.
