Matte Udbhava

Veteran filmmaker Kodlu Ramakrishna is back with a film that is, in many ways, a sequel to his classic, Udbhava. This time around, he has young Pramod at the forefront, while an ensemble cast of comedians are there to back him up. While the film begins on an entertaining note and sets an interesting premise, the second half is where the film fizzles out.

What works for Matte Udbhava is the first half, which is reminiscent of some of the comedies that were made for families in the 80s and 90s. Just when everything seems promising, the second half has a lot of unnecessary elements that derail everything. There are unnecessary fight sequences and a comic track featuring a perverted godman and his gullible female devotee is extremely unpalatable.

Matte Udbhava could have been a good film, but it's formulaic and old-school making style play the hindrances. Pramod has a good outing after Premier Padmini. Milana Nagaraj too chips in with a good performance. Had the film been a tad shorter and the unwanted comedy track a little less cringe-worthy, this could have been a good option for the family outing.
