Here’s some good news for citizens of Hubballi and Dharwad. The city is all set to get a new flyover, which is set to put an end to traffic hurdles in the twin cities. Motorists, commuters and pedestrians will soon be free from heavy traffic. The action plan of the flyover has been submitted to the government, with the focus on the main traffic junctions — Hubballi’s Kittur Rani Channamma Circle and Dharwad’s Jubilee Circles.
The flyover will be constructed over 12.8 kms — 5.8 kms near the Channamma Circle and 7 km at the Jubilee Circle. The plan will not, however, not damage the Kittur Rani Channamma statue.
A BREEZY DRIVEThe flyover connects PB Road, NH 4, Vijayapur Road, 218, Gadag State Highway, 63, Dharwad Road, Old Bus Stand and Janata Bazar. Once completed, motorists can enjoy a smooth drive, without any traffic hurdles.
CRUNCHING NUMBERSThe flyovers are being made at an estimated cost of Rs 1,242.26 crore — Rs 561.25 crore for the Channamma Circle and Rs 681.01 crore for the Jubilee Circle. Implementation of the project and providing utilities, such as a water pipeline, electric lines, drainage lines, require 1,28,054.50 sq ft of land in Hubballi, of which 2,501.46 sq ft is yet to be acquired. In Dharwad, 1,18,165.50 sq ft is needed for the project and utilities, in which 6,5193.58 sq ft is to be acquired. Rs 18.86 crore and Rs 72.87 crore has been set aside for this in Hubballi and Dharwad, respectively.
CENTRE’S BACKINGThe Central government has shown special interest in implementing the project and has granted Rs 360 crore to uplift the Channamma Circle. When Central minister
Nitin Gadkari visited Hubballi, he said that the Centre would grant unlimited fund for the upgrading and the flyover of the Channamma Circle.
