On Tuesday morning, it seemed that popular TV host and actor Akul Balaji had managed to land himself in quite a pickle. Akul was named in a case of lockdown violation, after a wedding party was conducted at a resort owned by him in the outskirts of the city. By evening, though, it was all sorted.
According to an FIR filed by the Doddaballapura police, Akul allegedly granted permission for a wedding to be held at the resort.
When the wedding party arrived at the resort, though, residents from the neighbourhood alerted the police. It then emerged that the function was being carried out without relevant clearances from officials.
Akul states, “Eight months ago, I had let out the resort to a private hospitality firm and was unaware of the booking. But when I was called to clarify, I was assured that the group had permissions. But as it turns out, they had it for a nearby five-star hotel and not our property. We asked them to leave and then I clarified my role, or rather the lack of it, to the police. I have been assured that my name will not be in the FIR, instead, the hospitality firm will be booked,” he says.
