Sixty years after he gave up acting in favour of direction, SK

(of the Dorai-Bhagavan duo) is an actor in demand. He has signed up Aadisidaata, in which he plays Raghavendra Rajkumar’s father, and Yuvarathna, in which he plays the heroine’s father. And not to forget, he plays the lead role in the tele-serial Aparanji.

“In the evening of my life, I am bagging acting roles. I am enjoying it,” said Bhagavan. Even before he directed his first film

in 1961 and his association with Dorairaj started in 1968 with

Jedara Bale

, he had bagged several roles as an actor.

Bhagavan debuted as an actor in

Bhagyodaya

(1954) playing the second hero. He played the lead role in Mangalasutra (1957).

“I joined the film industry as an actor and even played lead roles. I shifted to direction because the pay was better for a director than an actor back in the 50s and 60s. My association with Dorai became a hit and there was no reason for me to look at acting as an career. I have however acted in several films over the years. I do not know the reason for the latest surge in offers,” said the 86-year-old.
