Gharshane will be the first Kannada movie to hit the screen in 2014. What are your expectations?
In 2012, my film Shakti was the first movie to release in the year. It was released on January 6 and went on to become a hit. Now it is time for Gharshane which will be released on January 3. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hope it becomes a similar success.
The Olage Seridare Gundu song from Nanjundi Kalyana is being used as a remix in this film. That is the song that gave you star status in your very first film.
The song created history. The only difference is that Nanjundi Kalyana was my first film and the song took me to a high level.
Performing the same song in Gharshane was totally different because it was like a dance number and had a different feel. I hope once again people will love this song after all these years.
You are the first heroine in Kannada to play lead roles in action-oriented
films. Was this a deliberate attempt to do niche films?
It was not that easy to be the woman doing all the fighting in a film. It was a gift from God that people loved and accepted me in such films. And because of them, now I have a large following among children.
But you seem to be stuck in action roles for the last 10 years.
Though they seem basically action films, there are other shades and emotions in all my films. And ever so often, children walk up to me and say, 'Aunty, please don't stop doing action movies because we love your action'. So, I don't want to disappoint and lose those kid fans.
How do you balance your family and career?
I do not compromise on either. When I am with my family, there is no place for work, so that I can spend quality time with my family. I go out with my lovely children all the time. I have divided my time equally for family and work.
Do you also look into production to help your husband Ramu?
No, I should not enter this department because he has his own experience in the field and I am happy to just act in his productions. Sometimes, he does discuss his plans with me and I give my opinion.
What are the plans for 2014?
I cannot say exactly how many movies of mine will be released this year. But from our home production, there is Shivajinagar and apart form Gharshane, I have Boys that will release later.
How is Gharshane different from your other action films?
Most of my action films had me in daredevil kind of roles. But this film is more about suspense. It is a thriller that also has sentiment but mostly it is an edge-of-the seat 'what next' kind of movie. Director
Dayal Padmanabhan has done a great job and I have high hopes for it.
