Exclusive: Wedding Gift's subject is hard-hitting: Vikram Prabhu

Wedding Gift, which releases today in cinema halls, brings into the spotlight Section 498A of the IPC. It has Sonu Gowda, Nishan Nanaiah, Prema and Achyuth Kumar in lead roles, and is directed and produced by Vikram Prabhu under the Vikram Prabhu Films banner.
Speaking to us, Vikram says, “I am not a big fan of commercial films. I don’t look at films only from a monetary angle, which is why I took up a content-oriented subject, which will be an eye opener as it conveys an important message.Wedding Gift is about how a law is misused by a newly-married woman to torture her husband and his family, who are not at fault. This leads to a courtroom drama. The film talks about gender equality and women empowerment, but also shows the atrocities that men face from women - speaking about which is a taboo in society.”
The director adds that even though the subject is hard-hitting, he has laced it with commercial elements to keep audiences engaged. “There are songs and comic characters. Things take a dramatic turn in the second half. The climax is the USP of Wedding Gift, and will take everyone by surprise,” Vikram signs off.
