Days after a bust of late Kannada matinee idol Dr Vishnuvardhan was completely destroyed by unnamed miscreants, the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new statue, 15 meters away from the previous location, was held on Monday morning.
The late actor's son-in-law,
Aniruddha Jatkar laid the foundation stone for the new statue along with Sowmyanatha Swamiji. He says, “A new bronze life-size statue of Dr Vishnuvardhan will come up at a location close to where the bust was vandalised.
Minister V Somanna granted permission for the installation of the new statue. He has also promised that the perpetrators of the act of vandalism will be caught at the earliest. I have asked local fans of Dr Vishnuvardhan to do social work for the welfare of the people in the area.”
On Saturday morning, the bust of late Kannada actor Dr
Vishnuvardhan near Magadi road was vandalized and sparked protests by the legendary actor’s fans across
Karnataka and also the actors of Sandalwood. Actors like Sudeep spoke up after the incident, asking the police to initiate action against miscreant. Other
Sandalwood actors, too, demanded that the vandals be brough to justice.
