Kannada films served on a platter

Food titles are becoming increasingly popular
Kannada films served on a platter
Neer Dose, Biriyani, Pizza and Red Wine — no, we are not listing out names of food/beverages from the à la carte section of a restaurant menu. These are, in fact, titles of popular films in the south, and the trend, it seems, is quite popular in filmi circles. While most of these films don’t exactly focus on food in their stories, more often than not, there is a connection, however minor it may be.
1x1 polls
We lists films that have food titles and their connection to the story…
BARFI
When Sandalwood filmmaker Shekhar announced his film Barfi, everyone wondered if the film had anything to do with Anurag Basu’s Barfi. But the filmmaker insisted that his film is a different altogether and that is it about a boy and a girl who discover how similar they are while chatting online. Of the many things that they have in common, Indian confectionery barfi is one of them. Sweet connection, right?
NEER DOSE
Mangalore’s popular dish finds itself at the crux of director Vijayprasad’s next. He says, “I gave this title for two reasons — to add an element of mischief, and that neer dose has a connection with the central characters in the film. All the characters are linked to neer dose and the story explains how the dish plays an important role in their lives.”
SAKKARE
Sakkare is a sweet (no pun intended) love story with a message. But we wonder what sakkare (sugar) has to do with the film! When we quizzed the makers about the connection, he said that the protagonists first meet when the hero (played by Golden Star Ganesh) drops in at his neighbour’s (Deepa) house to ask for a cup of sakkare.

NIMBE HULI
According to director-actor Hemanth Hegde, his upcoming film's title means ‘peppermint candy’, which most people have had during their childhood years. “That candy is a mix of sweet and sour and my film implies that life is also like that. There are various instances in the hero's life, which directly impact everyone close to him,” says Hemanth.
COFFEE WITH MY WIFE
The Kannada-Telugu bilingual provides a peek into the lives of young couples today. Taking a cue from director Karan Johar’s popular television chat show, the makers of Coffee with my Wife acquired the title as the hero and heroine meet over a cup of coffee. Sindhu says, “Throughout the film, we fight, love and argue over a cup of coffee.”
