Karthi's excited for his first romantic flick

Despite an impressive lineage, actor Karthi is all set to make it on his own steam with two exciting films in the pipeline. TOI chats up the actor...
Karthi's excited for his first romantic flick
The first thing that you notice when you meet actor Karthi is his killer eyes and infectious smile.
Affable, simple and incredibly down-to-earth, its hard to believe that this young man is the son of veteran actor Sivakumar and sibling of superstar Suriya.
The actor seems to be pumping iron and sweating it out at the gym, as he looks buff. Is the new look for his latest film Paiyya? Absolutely, he says with a grin. There are many action scenes in the film and I had to practise hard to perform the stunts. I worked on my body language, timing and training. Even though it was an arduous task, I enjoyed the process.
Talking a little more about the project, he says, Paiyya is a very urbane film. This is the first time, I am doing a romantic flick and I am really excited, blushes Karthi and adds, It is the story of a young man and woman, who are on a journey from Bangalore to Mumbai in a car. I play a software engineer who doesnt have a job. The film has been shot entirely in a car. The screenplay is extremely interesting and there are many surprises. I am sure, it will make for an exciting watch, he explains.
The chemistry between Tamannaah and Karthi has everybody talking. Speaking about his co-star in the film, Karthi explains, It was good fun working with her. She is a talented and dedicated artiste. As for director Lingusamy, he is an amazing person to work with. He takes good care of all his actors. He is easy going and doesnt lose his temper at all. But, what I like best about him is that he takes life as it comes.
So, was the transition to a romantic hero easy, considering he has been working day and night for the magnum opus Aayirathil Oruvan? It was difficult, but at the same time, it was an experience in itself. I was so used to the beard and the rugged look, that I really miss it now. And guess what? Sometimes, people fail to recognise me because I dont have the beard anymore, he laughs.
The actor, who made his debut with the rustic and rural Paruthiveeran, was lauded for his stellar performance in the film. Why the risky and unconventional start? Dont you think it was worth the risk? My character in the film is still talked about.
I did the film with lot of passion and had immense confidence in the script and director Ameer, because at the end of the day, I knew it would be worth it. In fact, I consider myself lucky to have made a debut in such a film.
He goes on to add, After Paruthiveeran, when Selva Raghavan cast me for Aayirathil Oruvan, I knew that the project would be a long drawn affair, but I was mentally prepared to take the plunge. Three good films and three brilliant directors, what more can an actor ask for?
His films may take him all over the globe, but home is where the heart is for this young star. Once, Im home, I forget my tensions and worries. I have seen my father live by this philosophy and I am merely following suit.
Finally, any case of sibling rivalry in the Sivakumar household? There are lot of comparisons between my brother and I. But I dont think it is fair to compare a superstar like Suriya, who is more than 25 films old, with an upcoming actor like me. Im just three films young, concludes Karthi with a million-dollar smile.
