Manuranjan Ravichandran opens up about his weight gain and his neurological problem

Actor Manuranjan Ravichandran has decided that 2021 will be the year that he will be himself and have no secrets. The actor had refrained from being in the media eye and lay low. He has now revealed that it was because he had health complications following a depression phase that led him to gain weight and go into a shell. Excerpts from our conversation with him.
What has led to this move to sharing your truth?
Everyone who meets me lately has begun questioning me about my weight gain since the past year and a half.I'd try to change the conversation by just saying that I was bulking up for an action film. It is now time that I speak the truth. This new year, I've taken a resolution to be more open and outgoing.
What happened, exactly?
I was hospitalized in August of 2018. The left side of the body had become numb. It was a neurological problem. I had to consume a lot of steroids to get back to my normal self. I was in the hospital for around 25 days. I am still undergoing treatment. I still need to take an injection as treatment every six months. This was a secret kept within our family for a long time and I felt I needed to share my story rather than from other channels.
So, will this mean you will be more active and outgoing now?
I have resolved to step out more often. I have heard from people that they think I have attitude issues. I honestly do not. I was personally affected by a few things in my career. While Saheba, my debut film, is known to everyone, my second film Brihaspatiwas a complete disaster. Another film, Chillum, was shelved. All these things affected me subconsciously and I was depressed. It affected me physically too, I put on around 30 kilos. When I left the hospital, I was 115 kilos. My condition does not allow me to do intense workouts. I have had to take things slow, this put me in a shell and I stopped stepping out.
You are now back on track and will be starting shoot soon?
Yes. I will be resuming shoot for my film Mugilpete in February. We have some action sequences and songs to be shot. The team is aware of my condition. But I have also resolved to do everything it takes as I have a lot of hopes on Mugilpete.
