When filmmaker Guru Deshpande's Gentleman, which has
Prajwal Devaraj and
Nishvika Naidu in the lead, released earlier in the year, it did not get the expected box-office returns owing to the fact that 40 films released in the same month and then the pandemic. In the time since, Guru has been hopeful of bringing the film back to the theatres and had even refrained from releasing it on TV and OTT platforms for as long as he could.
But when there was no end in sight for the pandemic and uncertainty about film halls reopening, he finally released it for TV and OTT viewers, only to be disheartened when several people uploaded it on social media.
Guru, of course, initiated cyber crime proceedings against every such person he and his team came across online. In the months since, the filmmaker has been busy with his film institute and other production ventures, but tells us that he was determined to give Gentleman its due. And now we hear that among the films that were in theatres prior to the lockdown that are getting a second outing Gentleman is also there.
Guru and leading man
Prajwal took to social media to announce that the film, which not only had an interesting premise with a hero who suffers from a sleeping disorder, but also had relevant social messages, will be released again during the Dasara festival, given that theatres are set to reopen on October 15.
