Prashant Raj gives a virtual tour of Malgudi Museum

It was walk down memory lane, as Kannada director and screenwriter Prashant Raj gave a virtual tour of the newly-opened Malgudi Museum, located within the premises of the defunct Arasalu Railway Station. The station now gives visitors a real feel of RK Narayan’s fictional Malgudi, which was recreated by Shankar Nag in the iconic television series ‘Malgudi Days’ in the 1980s and 1990s.Prashant posted a video on his social media page and captioned it: “Malgudi Museum. Shankaranna’s #malgudidays; memories can be recalled here in Malgudi Museum, opens in Shivamogga today.”
Nestled amid serene and sylvan environs, the museum is home to a host of artefacts and memorabilia that in no time could whisk away anyone on a nostalgia trip. The restoration of the railway station and the opening of the museum finally fulfil the long-standing demands of a lot of railway users and organisations. Given the popularity of ‘Malgudi Days’, which decades later still strikes a chord with people of all age groups, the museum is expected to be a hotspot for lovers of heritage and nostalgia. The Malgudi restoration project was reportedly spearheaded by sculptor and art director, John Devaraj, after a request from the Indian Railways.
Prashant is well-known as the director and screenplay writer of 2009’s hit film ‘Love Guru’, while he is also famous for movies like ‘Gaana Bajaana’ and ‘Dalapathy’. In 2018, he directed the Ganesh and Priya Anand-starrer romantic comedy drama, ‘Orange’. He even had a cameo appearance in the film as a fortune-teller.
