Fans of Dr Rajkumar, rejoice! It has been revealed that the actor's 1971 hit, Kasturi Nivasa, is all set to be re-released. And that's not all; the movie, which was shot in black-and-white, will be re-mastered and released in colour. The drama film is about a generous man (played by Rajkumar) who pays the price for his generosity. Rajkumar’s character is a widower who loses his only daughter in an accident.
What happens when the protagonist loses out in business to a rival since his philanthropy eats into his savings is what forms the crux of the story.
The movie also stars Narasimharaju, Balakrishna, KS Ashwath and Jayanthi, and was remade in Tamil (
Avananthan Manidan) and Hindi (
Shandaar). While
Sivaji Ganesan starred in the Tamil remake,
Sanjeev Kumar played Rajkumar’s role in the Hindi version.
What is interesting is that
Kasturi Nivasa was supposed to be shot in colour when it was made in 1971. But since a significant portion of the shoot had already been completed, Rajkumar insisted that money should not be wasted.
