Her detractors have been saying that Ramyas days of working with Sandalwood A-listers are long gone, but she is determined to prove them wrong. Just days after doing a skit with Challenging Star Darshan as part of the Ambareesh Sambhrama, rumour has it that the makers of Darshans latest film, Bulbul, have approached Ramya to star in the project. One of the acts that Ramya did at the show to celebrate Ambareeshs 60th birthday was a recreation of the scene in which the Rebel Star (on a bicycle) woos a lady with the line, Mere sapnon ki rani, aye Bulbul maathadakkilwa, with Darshan enacting the part of Ambareesh. Ramya had tweeted about this and ever since, her fans have been calling her Bulbul. It is perhaps because of this that the makers of Bulbul (a remake of the Telugu film Darling) have approached Ramya to star in the film, says a source close to Ramya.
The actor, meanwhile, confirms the development. Yes, the makers of Bulbul have approached me with a role. Nothing has been finalized. Darshan and I last did a film six years ago called Datta. It would be nice to work with him again, says Ramya. Does that mean that Ramya is going against her stance of not working in remakes? Bulbul is a remake, no doubt. But the makers have made substantial changes to the script to suit the sensibilities of audiences here," she says.
