Almost six years later since he last scored the tunes for Puneeth Rajkumar’s Vamshi, music composer RP Pattnaik is making his comeback to Sandalwood, but this time in a new avatar. The music composer is making his debut as a director with his untitled film, starring newcomers in lead roles. The film — a political thriller — went on floors earlier this week. Reference to a social message in this film has ignited rumours of the story having been inspired by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). “My script revolves around the common man and how ignorant we are about issues that impact our lives. My film will focus on where we have gone wrong,” adds Pattnaik, insisting that his flick has no reference to AAP.
Ask Pattnaik what prompted his return to Sandalwood after a long break, he says, “It’s the love and affection for Kannada audiences that made my second inning possible in the industry. I always harboured dreams of directing a film and even helmed four projects in Hyderabad. So I couldn’t take up any musical assignments during that period.” The film stars newbies Shireen, Sardar and Prathap Raj in lead roles. Moreover, well-known names like Sadhu Kokila and Tabla Nani will also feature.
