Sandalwood director-producer Ramnarayan breathed his last at a hospital in Singapore on Sunday. He was 65. He was suffering from high blood pressure. He has directed around 130 films in his four decade long career. He has worked in all the four south film industries.
Some of his popular films are Bhairavi, Shambavi and Dakshayini, to name a few. His last film in Kannada was Kalpana, which was a remake of Tamil hit Kanchana.
Actress Shruthi starred in most of his Kannada films.
In the 1980s, he was known as a director who specialised in shooting commercial films in which animals played vital roles, while in the 1990s, several of his films were based on Hindu devotional subjects.
He also had a tryst with politics. He was elected as an
MLA from the Karaikudi constituency in 1989.
