Duniya Vijay’s release today, Shivajinagara, has been in the news from the time it was launched. “After my home production Jayammana Maga, I was going through personal turmoil and gossip mills in Gandhinagar went into overdrive suggesting that I was so depressed that I wasn’t able to take on new work. Producer Ramu and director PN Satya, though, disregarded all the rumours doing the rounds and came to me with the character Kariya in Shivajinagara, as they thought it was a film that was just right for me.
I am glad they had that confidence in me,” says
Vijay. The film, marketed as an action entertainer, sees Vijay paired with Mumbai gal
Parul Yadav, for whom Shivajinagara will be a debut of sorts, given that her first two films were multi-heroine projects. “I play a Kannadiga Brahmin girl in the film, who steps out of home in her langa-davani, only to transform into this ultra-glam chick on college campus. I even have an introductory song, in which I am seen riding a bike,” says Parul, who is very excited about her role in the film.
The love story apart, Vijay says that Shivajinagara has its heart in the right place, with ample doses of action and emotion, as is the case with most of his films. Yet the film has been given an A certificate by the Board of Censor Certification, which is likely to keep a chunk of the audience away from theatres. “As much as I would want to do clean family dramas, my strength lies in action. If it’s a Vijay film, it is a given that there will high-octane stunts. It is also understood that there will not be any obscenity. I have always maintained that I will not do films that are derogatory to women or have too much bloodshed. Obviously, Shivajinagara follows that trend,” Vijay explains. Supporting the lead cast are talented artists like
Ashish Vidyarthi, Adithya Menon, Daniel Balaji, Avinash and Sumithra, among others. Shivajinagara, produced by Ramu Films, releases today
