Director Vasanth is going places. Wondering how? Well, the filmmaker who made remarkable movies like Keladi Kanmani, Aasai and Rhythm, has been selected as one of the jury members for the Goa Film Festival that kickstarts this December. It is a great honour to be a member of the jury. Its indeed a proud moment for me.
Im going to select projects (international) with a script that appeals to the Indian audience, says the proud director.
Lady luck surely seems to be shining bright on the director as his critically-acclaimed film Satham Podathey recently emerged as the winner of the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Story Writer and Best Editing. I am really glad that our work has been appreciated. It was a movie made for a social cause domestic violence and alcoholism and its good to see that it has found appeal with the audience.
I still remember the day when I had gone for the anniversary celebrations of Alcoholics Anonymous. I was surprised to see so many youngsters addicted to alcohol. I realised the gravity of the situation and decided to make a film based on the problem. Casual drinking has become very common among youngsters these days and I wanted to explore the problem, recalls Vasanth.
And, that was not all. Another issue that was lurking in Vasanths mind for a long time was domestic violence. I was disturbed by the atrocities against women. I decided to take the problem to the masses. Im glad my attempt bore fruit and the film was widely appreciated, he beams and adds, The best compliment I received was from Selvaraj, an auto driver. He quit drinking after watching my film.
Vasanth is over the moon and just cant stop grinning. I was also expecting an award for Yuvan Shankar Raja as Paesugiren Paesugiren was a chartbuster. But well, Im delighted with the two awards that it has got, he concludes.
