It’s been 13 years since Isha Koppikar was last seen in Sandalwood, with films opposite (the late) Vishnuvardhan, V Ravichandaran and Ramesh Aravind to her credit. She is now making a comeback of sorts in the south with the Kannada film Looti, in which she plays an Assistant Commissioner of Police. “More often than not, you will find heroes playing these larger-than-life roles, be it a Dabangg or Singham.
It is high time that the ladies did that too,” says the
actress. But then, we have actresses in the south like Malashree and
Vijayashanti, among others, who kick some serious butt in their films, so we ask Isha what novelty her character brings to the table. “They may have done cop roles and action, but I doubt they have done an action comedy as I will with Looti,” she says. But for someone who has worked with some of Kannada cinema’s legends, won’t this film be a step down, given that her co-stars are not very well-known? “I don’t think so. I am the hero of Looti. You don’t need a man to be the hero. This is a woman-centric film and I am not paired with anyone,” explains Isha.
